INSTALLING FIREPROOFING CAULK

Fire caulking is designed to expand. The way it works is simple. The sealant material heats up and expands to fill the penetration or joint. This ensures any fire that occurs does not have the chance to spread to other areas of the commercial or industrial property.

Through-penetration firestop system comprises three elements: a fire-rated assembly, be it a wall or a floor; a penetrating item, such as a sprinkler pipe; and the firestop material. Am-cat Technicians ensure that the Sealant is installed flush with the wall on both sides of the penetration. Install 140kg/m3 Mineral Wool infill friction fitted and centered in the penetration.

How firestop sealant works by expanding a minimum of three times its dried volume when exposed to temperatures above 1000°F (538°C). Dries to a firm, rubber-like solid. Provides up to 2 hours of fire protection. Fire caulking is required in buildings with a high risk of spreading smoke. These areas are known as breaches. In commercial buildings, a breach without proper fire caulking could lead to increased fire and smoke damage and may jeopardize the health of others if a fire were to occur.
