How far can a 4×12 header span: – as per general rules and guidelines, the nominal size of a 4×12 header can span up to 12 feet. Thus, 12 feet is the maximum allowable span for a 4×12 size header. Therefore, for a span of up to 12 feet, you needed a 4×12 size header. A 4×12 size header is needed for a 12-foot span or opening. How much does a 12 inch- beam weighs per foot: – a 12 inch- beam can weigh from #31.8 pounds, #35 lbs, #40.8 lbs to #50 pounds per foot designated as W12×31.8, W12×35, W12×40.8, and W12×50. 12 ft LVL beam price: – on average cost/ price of LVL is around $3 to $12 per linear foot. So, for a 12 ft LVL beam price = 12×3 = $36 or 12×12 = $144, thus, the price/cost of a 12 ft LVL beam or Laminated veneer lumber or Engineered beam would be $36 to $144 for materials or between $50 to $200 per foot for installation.

The Header is the Structural Element—much like a bridge—that allows the space below to be open, not closed. Another way to understand a window header is to consider what’s being replaced. In that space ordinarily would be an exterior wall of wood-frame construction.  A header is used to carry the load of the roof or wall or anything above it, and its cladding, beyond the opening it is spanning. Window headers are often referred to as crossheads or pediments due to different industry standards when referring to window and doorway toppings. These architectural details are intended to appear as an extension of the home or business to produce a look of elegance and prestige. Exterior door frames must have a top header stout enough to bear the load. Interior doors also need that top header. Am-cat carpentry is a heavy believer in Double 2×12 headers the standard for window and door openings. Headers are used to create openings for windows, doors, and interior passageways. They serve a significant structural purpose. Since windows and doors cannot support weight other than their own, the weight above these openings must be collected and redistributed to adjacent studs.
