INSTALLING STEEL COLUMNS

Basements Support Posts columns are Necessary, supporting posts act as support to structural beams, which are the horizontal bars where the walls and the floor joists of the house are attached. Basement columns also serve as supplemental tools when you’re renovating your basement and you need to move beams or remove or make deeper foundations. All main structural columns should be anchored by a minimum of 4 anchor bolts, and columns should be set on level plates, leveling nuts, shim packs, or level finished floors for adequate transfer of construction loads. As its name implies, a bolted column connection is made with anchor bolts. Cast into the foundation using a template, the anchor bolts transfer tension, compression, and shear forces to the reinforced concrete base structure. The shorter the column, the greater the weight it will support. For example, a 6-foot-long, 4-inch diameter column has a maximum weight rating of up to 21,300 pounds. Increasing the length of the column drops its weight rating to 10,200 pounds.
