The lintel material used will depend on the structure of your property. Timber-framed buildings need load-bearing support, and therefore you may need additional lintel support. A lintel or I-beam is a piece of steel that spans an opening (e.g., a door or window) and supports the masonry above it. To install a new lintel, determine the size of the structural opening and add a minimum of 150mm to each end. Especially when dealing with brick and concrete block walls, the installation of a lintel is required before opening the load-bearing wall.
