SHINGLE ROOF INSTALLATION PROCEDURE STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS
Tear-Off Old Roof
- Remove all old shingles, nails, and underlayment
- Inspect decking for rot or damage
Install Drip Edge
- Metal strips installed along eaves and rakes
- Helps direct water into gutters, protects edge
Install Ice & Water Shield
- Apply ice & water shield in valleys, eaves, and around penetrations (chimneys, vents).
- This self-adhering membrane prevents leaks in vulnerable areas.
Install Underlayment
- Synthetic or asphalt-saturated layer rolled out across the roof
- Provides secondary water barrier
Cover Roof with Felt Paper
- 15 lb. or 30 lb. felt paper laid on top of underlayment
- Helps with moisture resistance and shingle installation
Waterproof Valleys
- Self-adhesive waterproof membrane (ice & water shield) applied
- Valleys are high-flow areas, critical to protect
Apply Starter Shingles
- Installed along eaves and rakes
- Ensures wind resistance at shingle edges
Install Shingles
- Asphalt shingles laid in overlapping rows
- Nailed to the deck and to each other
- Adhesive strip on each shingle seals with sun exposure
