Am-cat lays out and preps trim and or objects and Sand every contour and flat area in the direction of the grain with a combination of medium-grit sanding sponges and pads. coat with a stain on the wood in the direction of the grain. Am-cat’s method is to simply dip a natural-bristle brush into the stain and brush it right onto the wood If the stain is not working its way into the grain, brush it across the grain and finish with brushstrokes parallel to the grain. It may look muddy at first, but that will clear up when you wipe off the excess. If it’s too light, repeat the steps. If you have high-quality trim in place — like oak or mahogany with ornate details like beveled edges and fine wood grain — or seek to upgrade to such, staining is the better choice Applying a topcoat sealer is not required, but a finish protects the stained wood from scratches and keeps it from fading over time. If applying a polyurethane finish with a brush, apply one to two coats.
